Joe Simpson: ‘Ashlee’s Melrose axe was no loss’

The singer/actress landed a role in the revamped version of the 1990s soap opera earlier this year (09), but it was announced in October (09) that her character Violet Foster would be written out of the series. The tabloid press pounced on the news, portraying Simpson-Wentz’s axe as a career failure – but her dad Joe Simpson has come to the defence of the 25 year old, claiming the media will attack his showbiz family whatever they do.
He tells Usmagazine.com, “We as a family are under a lot of pressure. (People want) to make us look bad and want us to fail.
“(The Melrose Place axe) was never a loss. The world says whatever it says. (The world), again, always want to make it look like we’re failures but we’re really just a family that works hard.”
And the family patriarch is proud of the way Ashlee and her older sister Jessica Simpson deal with the harsh criticism: “My children look at ups and downs and rise up above it all and remain strong…We’re just normal people, and we always try to be who we say we are.”
Simpson-Wentz has since bounced back from the acting disappointment by making her Broadway debut in Chicago as Roxie Hart, reprising the role she first played on London’s West End in 2006.

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz’s sexy exit
Ashlee Simpson-Wentz is apparently set to make a sexy exit from Melrose Place. The actress and singer plays crazy Violet but has been cut from the drama, as has Colin Egglesfield, who plays Auggie Kirkpatrick – and it seems their characters will appear in a “crazy naked” sex scene before they leave.
Colin told E! Online: “It involves us both wearing half-loin cloths that they had to tape to us, there are very few clothes involved in the near future.”
The actor said of Ashlee’s character in the show: “She’s up for anything.”
The characters apparently have two romps, in which they end up almost completely naked, before they leave the show around episode 13.
But Colin doesn’t predict Violet and Auggie walking hand-in-hand happily into the sunset together.
He said: “Things get pretty violent and kind of crazy. Auggie ends up hitting the bottle and falls off the deep end a little bit.”

All the rumours about Ashlee’s departure

There are a lot of rumours about the reason why Ashlee will not be part of the Melrose Place cast anymore. The show’s executive producer told press that it was the original plan that Ashlee’s part in the show was a short-lived gig and Ashlee, ofcourse, knew about this. Her comment was:
“Having the chance to play Violet on Melrose Place has been a thrill. Although I always knew her story would come to a final, insanely unpredictable end, playing a creepy, unstable character was something I always wanted to do, so I jumped at the chance. Thanks to the CW and the entire cast and crew of Melrose Place for allowing me this opportunity.”
Later, there were articles posted on the internet with content you could call the opposite of the above.
An insider: “Ashlee didn’t see it coming, and now she’s crushed. She invested her heart and soul into the job. She feels like the rug has been pulled out from under her. She is struggling to hold her marriage together, dealing with motherhood and practically starving herself to look good. Ashlee’s friends are concerned that she’s headed for an emotional meltdown. She was desperate to establish herself as a serious actress, but now she’s worried that she’s failing.”
Even though the executive producer of the show had already given the reason for Ashlee’s departure, rumours are spreading that Ashlee was fired because she could not act. “They hired her because they needed a good name to help create buzz. But she was embarrassingly bad. Producers cut her down as much as possible.”
As if this wasn’t enough, another spreading rumour is that Ashlee got kicked off because of her ‘diva behaviour’. “Ashlee was kicked off ‘Melrose Place’ because she was a total diva on set, late all the time, and deeply disliked by fellow cast members. It created a lot of discord among the cast. She could barely act,” the source said.
How much crazier will it get?
I will end this post with one last rumour about Ashlee’s departure.
There’s this rumour that says that Heather Locklear had Ashlee Simpson fired from the show. “Heather was jealous of Ashlee immediately. She knew Ashlee was one of the bigger names on set, and she wanted her gone so she could make it her show. Heather is very political and calculating…”
A source also revealed that producers desperately wanted Heather Locklear to reprise her role, but couldn’t afford her salary demands without cutting someone.
It’s insane how people can make up things. I hate rumours.

Jessica Simpson Talks Ashlee’s Melrose Departure
The “Come on Over” songstress expressed her dislike of the CW soap in a recent rant on her Twitter page, the same place she used to promote the show.
She tweeted, “CW catching up on MP.who writes this crap?i have had bad scripts to work with, but this?thank God my sister is amazing and got you some press.”
However, a CW insider revealed that Ashlee was canned because she couldn’t act. “They hired her because they needed a good name to help create buzz. But she was embarrassingly bad. Producers cut her down as much as possible.”

Ashlee Simpson: Cheerfully Unemployed

Putting on her best smile, Ashlee Simpson showed a cheerful disposition as she was spotted leaving a house in Studio City on Friday afternoon (October 30).
Wearing an oversized black scarf to top off her casual-yet-stylish ensemble, Miss Simpson is fresh off of the news that she’s been let go from the CW’s “Melrose Place” series.
According to tabloid reports, a source says of the situation: “Ashlee didn’t see it coming, and now she’s crushed. She invested her heart and soul into the job. She feels like the rug has been pulled out from under her.”
Meanwhile, producers of the show have released statements saying that Miss Simpson knew her character would have a short-term role on the series.
